William Ward Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Perine Funeral Home - Shinnston on Jan. 7, 2026.
William Arthur (Bill) Ward passed away January 6,2026 peacefully at United Hospital Center following a brief illness. Bill was born September 9, 1932, in Iowa County Wisconsin. His Father is the late
Edwin A. (Arthur) Ward. His mother is the late Margaret Ward (Fisher). Bill's middle name and his father's middle name (Arthur) is now carried on by Great-grandson Arthur Montgomery Queen. Bill was preceded in death by wife of over 40 years Mary Virginia Ward (Corley) and 13 siblings, Bill was the last surviving child. Surviving are his children, Roger Ward of Bridgeport and Robin Ward of Bridgeport; Grandchildren, Brittany and Robbie Philips of Bridgeport, Turner and Kaci Ward of
Christiansburg VA, Meredith and Ben Queen of Bridgeport, Caulen and Perla Ward of Greenville, SC., Madison and Dane DelGreco of Bridgeport, WV; Step grandchildren, Andrea and Jasen Reppert, Aaron and Jade Lantz, Gretchen and Michael Johnston, all of Bridgeport; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; other members of Bill's family, Carol Ward of Bridgeport and Sharron Lantz of Bridgeport.
Bill served in the Korean War as a Radioman in the Navy from 1951-1955. Bill was a well-known member of the community and Owner of Ward's Inc., Commercial Foodservice Equipment & Repair. He could be spotted driving around town in his Grey Van or on a roof perhaps, even climbing a ladder doing his loved work of repairing refrigeration equipment. Another well know spot to see him was every single morning at the Bridgeport McDonalds, having his loved coffee and breakfast sandwich. Thanks to the staff at the McDonalds for taking care of him for over 40 years. Also thanks to the many customers that he acquired over the years, he thought of each as a friend, not just a customer.
Bill worked for the power company in Buckhannon, WV for 7 years before getting his start in business. He and his family ran the business over many years in various locations, and the last 45 years in Anmoore, WV. Bill enjoyed duck hunting in his canoe with his son and happily finding some grouse for his family to enjoy for dinner. Bill enjoyed golfing with friends and his children as he always seemed to give them good advice on hitting the ball a little better.
Thank you to friends and neighbors for you caring and concern. Also, thank you to United Hospital Center 4th and 7th floor staff for your help and caring over the last couple weeks. Bill will be sadly missed by his family and friends
Visitation was held at the Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St. Shinnston and cremation services were provided. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.perinefunerals.com. The Perine Funeral Home is honored to serve the Ward family.
