We thought we would get more time with him.
William B. Ward -our beloved Bill- passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the age of 56, knowing he was deeply loved and cherished.
Born on May 20, 1969, in Belding, MI to William and Barb Ward. Bill grew up in Lowell, MI, where he graduated from Lowell High School. On October 12, 1996, he married his life partner, Deborah Peterson, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
Bill built a rewarding career in quality control at Lacks Inc, where his attention to detail and steady nature were appreciated by all who worked with him. Outside of work, he found joy in biking, hiking and fishing – always happiest when surrounded by nature. He had a lifelong love of music, a deep devotion to his University of Michigan teams (even in a “house divided”) and was a keen observer of current events.
Time spent outdoors and at “The Lake” with family brought him countless happy memories, and travelling the country with Deb was one of his greatest joys. Above all, family was everything to Bill. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. He is survived by Deb, his wife of nearly 30 years, his children Billy Ward, Molly Riel (Rick), Kay Ward (Gil), Jamaze Payne, Sam Ward (Gabbi); and his beloved grandchildren Hannah, Audrie, Camdien, Xeioe, and Axton.
Bill will be deeply missed by his parents, William and Barb Ward: his sister, Lynn: and many extended family members and friends. He is now reunited with his sister, Lori, who preceded him in death.
A Memorial Service celebrating Bill’s life will be officiated by his sister-in-law, Betsy Zysk and will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers who showed compassion and care for Bill throughout his illness. A special thank-you goes to sister-in-law Theresa; whose tireless research and advocacy carried the family through these difficult times.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods.
