William Warfield Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory - Greenwood Chapel on Feb. 6, 2026.
William W. "Bill" Warfield, 84, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away on February 5, 2026.

Bill was born August 1, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, and spent much of his childhood in Brazil near the Amazon River, where he lived until age 12. Those early years gave him stories he enjoyed sharing throughout his life.

He shared 40 years of marriage with his wife, JoEllen, building a life together centered on home, routine, and the things they loved most. In later years, his beloved Pomeranians were rarely far from his side, those dogs meant everything to him and were constant companions.

He is survived by his children, Mike (Angela) Warfield, Susan (Don) Conrad, and Elizabeth "Liz" Ernst, whom he shared with his former wife, Beth Elliott; his sisters, Virginia "Ginny" (Dave) Moodie and Bette (Bob) Pycraft; seven grandchildren, John Schuld, Jadyn Conrad, Bryan Conrad, Ali Meyers-Chupp, Dana Meyers, Jordan Pawlak, and Nathan Ernst; and four great-grandchildren, Raylan Long, Nora Long, Olive Chupp, and Henry Pawlak. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mildred Warfield, and his brother, Bob Warfield.

Bill worked for 35 years at Eli Lilly, retiring from the accounting department, where he was known for his steady work ethic and the friendships he formed along the way. He was active in his church communities at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church and First Baptist Church in Beech Grove, where he spent many years serving with the AWANA program, something that meant a great deal to him and to his family.

He enjoyed tinkering and collecting, especially model cars, and had a lifelong interest in both cars and ships. He took particular pride in restoring his own sailboat, a project he worked on with patience and care. Above all, people will remember his easy sense of humor and his habit of cracking a joke or making a quick comment just to see someone smile.

Bill will be remembered for his quiet nature, his devotion to JoEllen and his dogs, and the small, everyday moments that brought him happiness.

Private services will be held.
