William George Watt
January 2, 1934 - February 16, 2022
Charlotte, North Carolina - William George Watt passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 in The Stewart Health Center at The Cypress of Charlotte. William, often referred to as Bill and sometimes Billy, was born January 2, 1934 in San Francisco, CA to the late Mary and George Watt.
Bill was raised in Burlingame, CA where he attended St. Catherine of Siena grammar school and graduated from Serra High School with the Class of 1952. He attended junior college until he enlisted in the United States Army. Bill served as a Corporal from 1953-1955. He was then hired by Royal Insurance in 1957 as a trainee. During his long career with the Royal, he was transferred from San Francisco to Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, New York (twice), and finally Charlotte, NC in 1986. Bill also traveled numerous times to the home office in London. After rising to the rank of Senior Vice President, he retired from Royal Sun Alliance in 1995 after 38 years with the insurance company.
Bill was recently widowed, losing his wife of over 45 years, Frances H. Watt. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, entertaining family and friends, and many lifelong friendships.
Bill is survived by his children, Christopher Watt of Dacula, GA, Michael Watt and his wife, Cheryl of Mohave Valley, AZ and Theresa Rose of Fallbrook, CA; his six grandchildren; Jamie, Ryan, Nicole, Zachary, Casey, and Hunter. Also surviving are his niece, Karen Reed of Elk Grove, CA along with many nieces, nephews, numerous cousins, and countless lifelong friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Sabrina Watt; sister, Carolyn Watt Selby; great-grandson, Brodie, and son-in-law, Jim Rose.
Bill will be inurned at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 alongside his late wife and youngest daughter at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Chapel Hill, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Bill to a charity of the donor's choice.
