William "Bill" Westering III, 85, a cherished man known for his kind, loving, caring, and
humorous personality, left us on August 26th, 2024. Born on November 28th, 1938, to
William Westering Jr and Martha (Post) Westering in Chicago, Illinois. Bill lived a life
filled with tremendous passion and service toward his country and others.
Bill graduated from Fenger High School in 1956. He was immediately hired by IBM as a
financial analyst and continued education at a local Junior College.
In 1959, Bill met Karen J. Laverman at Emmanuel Reformed Church while singing in the
choir together. They married July 22nd, 1961. Bill was drafted into the US Army and
served from 1961 to 1963. Bill and Karen went on to have 4 children, Bill, Pam, Tim,
and Craig.
In 1991, Bill retired from IBM and worked two other jobs after retirement because he
liked to work and help people. Bill spent his time traveling with his wife, singing in the
church choir, planting flowers and visiting his children and grandkids.
Bill was predeceased by his father and mother; his sister, Dorothy Westering; his
nephew, Bernie Elliott, and his nephew, Earl Langreder. He is survived by Karen; his
sister-in-law, Phyllis (Laverman) Lansu; his children, Bill, Pam, Tim, and Craig and their
spouses; his grandsons, Caleb, Tyler, Austin, and Ryan; his granddaughters, Brittany,
Annie, and Morgan; and great grandson, Jude.
Services will be held at Pedersen Ryberg Funeral Home located at 435 N. York Street,
Elmhurst, Illinois, on Saturday, August 31st with a viewing from 9 am until noon and the
service starting at 12 pm.
Bill Westering III, a beacon of kindness and love, will forever reside in our hearts. His
legacy, exemplified by his singing, jokes and compassion, will continue to inspire and
guide us. As we grapple with the loss of his physical presence, we find comfort in
knowing that he is in Heaven with Our Heavenly Father singing "How Great Thou Art".
Bill's life will live on through his music and the love he instilled in us.
