William Wetherill Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Holman-Howe Funeral Homes Lebanon on Jan. 19, 2025.
William Roy "Bill" Wetherill, son of Roy and Virginia (Campbell) Wetherill, was born April 4, 1933, in Muleshoe, Texas. He departed this life Friday, January 17, 2025, at his home in Roach, Missouri, at the age of ninety-one years, nine months and thirteen days.
On June 25, 1988, Bill was united in marriage to Doris Riley and together they have shared the last thirty-seven years.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Vickie Murrill; and a son, Wesley Reedy.
He is survived by his wife Doris; his daughters, Zoë "Missy" Evans and Don Dettmann, of Osage Beach, Missouri, Laurie Marler and husband Leo, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Stacie Nelson and Aaron Robinson of Camdenton, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, Melanie Rennison (Gary), Joshua Moulder (Melissa), Jason Smothers (Kayla), Kristin Finch (Alex), Amy Nelson, Jessica Hendricks (Carey), Levi Nelson (Kristina), Alyssa Sawyer (Larry), Austin Nelson, Andrew, Michael and Samuel Reedy; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Fran Bowman of Kansas City, Missouri, and Shirley Smith of Belton, Missouri; two brothers, Bert Wetherill and wife Rose of Melissa, Texas and Clifford Wetherill of Arvada, Colorado; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
Bill was a member of Ozark Bethel Chapel Assembly of God and cherished the time spent with his church family.
Bill moved to Sugar Creek, Missouri at a young age and grew up there. Following his graduation from high school, Bill started his career at Bendix Aviation. In 1953, he was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. Bill was honorably discharged in 1955 and returned to Bendix Aviation, where he worked his way to the position of Production Engineer. Bill retired from Bendix after thirty-seven years.
In 1972, Bill purchased his farm on the Little Niangua River. He spent countless hours fixing fence, cutting hay, processing timber, and cutting firewood for friends on the farm. It was where he found peace. Throughout the years, Bill enjoyed deer hunting and fishing on the farm with his family and friends. He also operated a collectible coin business in the years following his retirement.
He also enjoyed collecting baseball cards.
Bill was a jack of all trades. He spent countless hours working on his machinery and was able to fabricate any tool or part necessary to get the job done. Since 1999, he and Doris were "Winter Texans." They would spend most of the winter down on South Padre Island where he enjoyed surf fishing and spending time with his friends.
Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his long life and many accomplishments and will treasure the many memories he has created for his family and friends.
