William Hugh Whiteside, lovingly known as Bill, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026 in Santa Ana, California, surrounded by the family he cherished. He was born on Friday, May 13, 1955 in Los Angeles, California to Gladys and Dan J. Whiteside, and grew up with his late brother, Thomas. Bill graduated from Edison High School in Huntington Beach before earning his bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Southern California. The summer after high school, Bill took a job at the Mann Theater at South Coast Plaza—a decision that would change everything. There, he met Julie, the love of his life. They built a beautiful life together, raising two daughters, Wendy and Karen, and later welcoming four beloved grandchildren: Evan, Ryan, Abby, and Henry. Their home was always filled with love, warmth, and laughter.
Professionally, Bill found his calling in the engineering and aerospace industries. After college he began a long and accomplished career, holding roles at Fluor, Hughes, BF Goodrich, and ultimately Boeing. His work as a contracts administrator for Boeing—selling C aircraft to the Middle East—took him on many memorable journeys to places like the UAE and Qatar. He took pride in his work, forging lifelong friendships and tackling every challenge with steadiness and wit.
As a convert to Catholicism, Bill’s faith was deeply meaningful to him. Before becoming ill, he volunteered at St. Thomas More’s CHRP program, helping others grow in faith and community.
Bill faced the last two years of life with remarkable courage as he battled cancer. Even in hardship, he remained thoughtful, loving, and humor-filled—qualities that defined him throughout his life.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Julie; his daughters, Wendy and Karen; his grandchildren, Evan, Ryan, Abby, and Henry; and a lifetime of friends and family who will forever carry his stories and laughter in their hearts.
He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
