William Whitman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Reflection Cremation & Funeral Service - Tifton on Jul. 29, 2024.
William "Billy" Whitman passed away peacefully on Sunday July 14, 2024 at South Georgia Medical
Center in Valdosta, GA after a hard fought battle with kidney cancer. He was 55.
He was born in Patterson, NJ on November 1, 1968 and moved to Sussex County, NJ when he was two
years old. He spent his youth on a small farm enjoying the outdoors, tending his chickens and other
livestock, riding his pony and exploring the woods. He was particularly fond of a rock formation in those
woods that looked like a table. Many a picnic lunch was enjoyed there overlooking the surrounding
mountain views.
Religion played a large part of his formative years and after he graduated from Sussex County Technical
School he entered a two year program of study at Elim Bible Institute and College in Lima, NY.
In his early twenties he moved to Florida and found work with his long time friend spinning tunes as a DJ
in the local clubs and working various other jobs. For the past twenty plus years he has lived in
Nashville, GA. There he became a member of The International Apostolic Church of God and could be
found singing in the choir, leading the faithful in prayer or working behind the scenes creating a
Facebook and on-line presence for the church.
He was very proud of his accomplishments in life having attained a black belt in Karate and receiving an
associate degree in computer science. His hobbies included on line gaming, writing gaming code, all
things Star Wars, drawing, graphic design and caring for his rescue dogs.
William was predeceased by his former wife, Jeanne Marie (Greiner) Whitman, his brother, Wallace
Whitman, and his adoptive mother Victoria (Miller) Whitman.
He leaves behind his adoptive father James Whitman and his wife Joanne (Hermann) Whitman of
Lafayette, NJ, sisters Bonnie (Robert) Skillman of Reeders, PA and Alyssa Keyser of Orefield, PA. He also
leaves brothers James Whitman II of Hagerstown, MD and Clifford (Sarah) Whitman of Mendham, NJ.
He was a loving uncle to Travis, Trevor, Payton, Harper, Kit and Sloane and great-uncle of Madison,

Bill and I were church friends from Crossroads Assembly of God when we were teenagers. My most memorable experience was going with Bill and his mother to Elim after Bill graduated from Sussex Tech. We visited the school (which Bill eventually attended) and his mother drove 90-100 mph home to NJ. I was scared. I still have Bill's High School picture. I would often go over his mothers' apartment in Franklin, NJ and visit them both.

He was always a kind spirit, and I truly appreciate having met him. It is sad that he isn't around physically, but he will always be in our hearts.

My best memory of William is when he and I were hanging out at his trailer and playing on the Xbox together. We stayed up until 4 am. Playing video games and talking about everything.

He invited me and my ex husband to his house for a homemade meal and movie night and he also invited some of our other friends
