William Riley Williams Jr.

William Riley Williams, Jr., 80, of Maryville, passed away Wednesday January 7, 2026 at his home. He was strong in his faith and his love of the Lord. He lived his life with a rare combination of patriotism and a deep, accepting kindness toward everyone he met. Those who knew him best will remember him for his complete and utter devotion to his wife of 59 years, Susan Darlin', who he first met in high school. He also led with an easygoing spirit and insightful wisdom. Whether Jr. was hunting, enjoying country music or simply sitting on his porch, he embodied a quiet strength and a 'come as you are' attitude that made everyone feel at home. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and from 1978 to 2013 along with his wife he owned and operated Williams Wallcoverings. He is survived by wife, Susan Hughes Williams; children, Alan Williams (Holli); Jama Creswell (Garrett Wagley); grandchildren, Eleanor Creswell and Georgia Creswell; sisters, Shirley Summey, Mary Ruth Russell and Imogene Patton; sister-in-law, Trudy Hughes (Bobby Castle). He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. William Riley Williams, Sr., and Nora Bell Smith Williams; brothers, Charles Williams, Carson Williams, and Franklin Williams; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Charlotte Hughes. In lieu of flowers, please pay it forward as Jr. would; or donate to your favorite charity in his memory. A memorial service is being planned for a later date and will be announced.
