Bill - "Willy" to lifelong friends - grew up in Shelby, North Carolina (NC), and was a proper comedian from the start.
As a teen he split time between NC and Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania (PA). In 1979, Bill became a Golden Gloves boxer in PA, bringing home multiple trophies. After a short stint in college and ROTC/Airborne training, he chose the school of hard knocks: lots of hard work, and his own painting company.
At 29, Bill joined the U.S. Army, was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado (CO), and volunteered to serve with a replacement company in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. He served with honor and distinction.
After the army, he got to work in real estate, where he built a life with his wife, Eva, and welcomed his only daughter, Shelby, with loving arms in Trinidad, CO.
Self-taught and stubborn paved the way for Blue Diamond Builders, where Bill raised beautiful homes from the ground up, later becoming the 'go-to spray-foam guy' and a mentor to many. He never met a stranger, and showed up at all hours to help anyone who called.
In his later years, he was a world traveler - leaving footprints from Morocco to Germany, making friends from Lisbon to Budapest, and exploring countless beautiful places in-between.
Bill fought a rare cancer from October 2024 on, and gave his final goodbye in 2026 with Shelby hand-in-hand.
When he was around, even the smallest, most ordinary days felt like an adventure.
He was a true testament to what it means to be alive.
Bill Winter will not be forgotten.
