William "Bill" Carol Woodard, 91, of Ave Marie, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.
Mr. Woodard was born in Johnston County, North Carolina on December 30, 1932, a son of the late Joseph Patrick Woodard and Sadie Charlotte Aldridge Woodard. William was a beloved figure in his community and a devoted family man. He served honorably in the Navy during the Korean War Era, and was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Following his military service, he had a successful career in the trucking industry and retired from Consolidated Freightways Inc. of Spartanburg, South Carolina. His commitment to physical fitness was evident as he continued to do pushups well into his late eighties. A man of deep faith, William dedicated much of his life to Christian service. He always witnessed to others, served as a deacon, and volunteered at Lions Club International. His infectious laugh and love for telling jokes were cherished by all who knew him. He took great pride in his personal appearance and always saluted his family when leaving the house, rain or shine.
Left to Cherish his memory are, daughters, Teresa Gail Sparacino (Tony) of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Charlotte Renee Pigg (Doug) of Ava Maria, Florida, and son, William Stephen Woodard (Robin) of Laurens, South Carolina; and sister, Betty Jo Townsend of Princeton, North Carolina. He was a proud Grandaddy to nine grandchildren, Lt. Colonel Joshua Trantham (Stefanie), Samantha Stamey (Wes), Zachary Trantham (Kayla), Abigail Trantham, David Sparacino (Dale), Jonathan Pigg (Izzy), David Pigg (Christie), Dr. Timothy Pigg (Jessica), Will Woodard (Riley) and Jake Woodard, nineteen great-grandchildren, Carter, Coleman, Wyatt, Sawyer, Sadie, Asher, Grady, Hudson, Eleanor, Adelynn, Anna, Rob, Jasey, Avery, Audrey, Vanessa, Marcus, Easton and Emory.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Betty Ross Elder Woodard; sister, Glenda Gail Woodard of Princeton, North Carolina; brothers, Joseph Patrick Woodard of Chesapeake, Virginia, Billy Douglas Woodard of Princeton, North Carolina, and Rudolph Thomas Woodard of Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
William's life will be celebrated on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs, SC. His legacy of joy, service, and dedication to his faith and family will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
