With a heavy heart and profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of William James Young, known to those who loved him as "Bill", on October 31, 2025. Born on Valentine's Day, 1944, in Wauseon, Ohio. Bill's 81 years were a journey of overcoming adversity, achieving personal success, and enriching the lives of those around him with his unique charm, sense of humor, and faith.
Bill's life was a tapestry of remarkable accomplishments and personal passions. He served with distinction in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant, serving in the Vietnam War, during his 26-year military career. His military careen sent Bill and his family to live in many places, at home and abroad. After retiring from the military, he worked multiple jobs to provide for his family before settling into a second career, where he spent decades counseling and working with troubled youths at group homes as well as bringing many into his own home as a proctor parent. His hobbies were as diverse as his life experiences, from repairing bikes and thrift shopping to cheering on his favorite sports teams the Ohio State Buckeyes, Dallas Cowboys and Browns, Utah Jazz, and the Cleveland Indians. His love for Chevies and Honda motorcycles was only rivaled by his passion for Dr Pepper, dogs, and last but not least bowling, which he often shared with his beloved wife Neena in leagues throughout their lives together.
A convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints during his military years, Bill's faith was a cornerstone of his life. His dedication to family history and spreading the blessings of the gospel to his ancestors was very dear to his heart. Bill's love for God, his family, and his fellow man was evident in random acts of kindness. Like the time the church nursery was in need of toys and he bought so many toys they had to tell him to stop. Bill also had a knack for striking up conversations with strangers and making them feel important. Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Neena, their children James (wife Valerie) , Bruce (wife Betty), Michael and Tracy, and his cherished grandchildren Christian, Elizabeth, Roice, William, Daniel, Annabelle, and Dillon. Bill was preceded in death by his father Roice A Young and his mother, Mary J Young.
