William Zaros Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 15, 2025.
William P. Zaros, Jr., of North Caldwell, NJ, passed away on February 10, 2025, at the age of 69.
Visiting will be held in Paul Ippolito-Dancy Memorial, 9 Smull Ave., Caldwell, NJ on Monday, February 17, 2025 from 4-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be offered in Notre Dame Church, North Caldwell, NJ on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 10 AM. Interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
William was a resident of North Caldwell for almost his entire life and maintained a home in Seaside Park for the past 20 years.
Bill was a graduate of West Essex High School (Class of 1973) and attended William Paterson University for two years before joining his family business in a full-time capacity. He was employed at Verona Industrial Supply for more than 50 years, working part-time during high school and ultimately becoming a partner. Despite the emergence of national building supply chains, under the leadership of Bill, his brother David and cousin Joe Masiero, Verona Industrial Supply not only endured but grew stronger. Bill worked closely with many members of his family in the business and with other dedicated employees before retiring in 2023.
Beyond his accomplishments in the business world, Bill was a devoted and beloved family man. While in high school he began dating Donna (nee Smith), whom he lovingly referred to as Babe. They married in 1977 and recently celebrated their 47th anniversary. Bill is survived by his daughter Kristen Ann Mautone (West Caldwell), sons William Zaros (Fairfield) and Matthew Zaros (Seaside Park), and the grandchildren he loved so deeply: Emily Mautone, Abby Mautone, Mark Mautone and Eliana Zaros. He is also survived by his brother David Zaros and his wife Patti, and sister Diane Forbes and her husband Robert. His family also includes Ken and Lori Smith, John and Kathy Murphy, and Sharon Burns, as well as more than a dozen nieces and nephews who adored Uncle Bill. He will remembered for his devotion to his family, his sense of humor and most of all,his adventurous spirit, kindness and endless generosity.
Bill truly led a full life, both professionally and personally. He enjoyed his annual kite boarding trips to the Caribbean and South America and sharing an occasional bottle of fine wine with family and friends. Bill also loved his dog Zoey and the peaceful early mornings they spent together.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to Notre Dame Church, 359 Central Ave., North Caldwell, NJ 07006, would be appreciated.
