Williams Williams Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The House of Day Funeral Service, Inc. on Feb. 25, 2026.
Mother Rosalyn Marie Williams was born February 17, 1934 to Charles Hamilton (Clinton, Kentucky) and Emma Mae Roberson (Vienna, Illinois). Raised in a Christian home, she was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church at age nine. She was a graduate of Whitney High School where she excelled in math and office technology and became the school's first Black class officer.

She met a handsome Kentuckian, James Williams, while working at Rossford Army Ordnance Depot. They were married January 9, 1955 at St. Mark MBC by their Pastor Rev. IJ Johnson. God blessed their union with three children - Jacquelyn, James III, and Kimberly. From their three children came nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and bonus family members whom she loved dearly.

Rosalyn's distinguished career as an office professional and data systems clerk, spanned four decades of service to area companies. Early on, she broke color barriers becoming the first Black employee hired by Deveaux Appliance and the first Black white-collar employee at the Ohio Gas Company - a milestone so significant it was reported in the news (Toledo Blade). Despite hostility from some patrons. Rosalyn's perseverance and personality opened doors for others, leaving a legacy of courage and quiet strength. She retired in 1991 from the Medical College of Ohio.

An accomplished musician and devoted church leader, Rosalyn faithfully served with James in ministry. When he answered the call to preach, she stood by his side as First Lady, organist, Sunday School teacher, and Youth Choir director. Later, with her husband's full support, she accepted her own call to the Gospel, becoming licensed and ordained. Together, they co-founded the Tabernacle of Faith church in 1978.

Rosalyn and James followed God's leading to conduct marriage seminars and marital counseling, family and individual counseling, and prison outreach. They also established the James C. Williams Center for Advancement (2001-2008) which provided a safe space, tutoring, and meals for underserved neighborhood youth.

Mother Williams and James were blessed with 58 years of a joyful, loving marriage, lasting until his passing in 2013. Rosalyn then relocated to Michigan to live with her daughter and son-in-law, and soon after moved to Ridgeland, Mississippi in 2014. She became a faithful member of St. Luther Missionary Baptist Church, pastored by her son-in-law, Rev. Charles Polk, Jr.. She served on the Mothers Board and the Intercessors Ministry, actively participated in Bible Class and Women's Ministry, and faithfully joined weekly prayer calls-even in her final days. Callers looked forward to hearing her say, "Mother Williams is on line!"

This sweet God-fearing woman embraced life with enthusiasm and love. Her journey stands as a testament to the divine purpose God places within each of us. Mother Williams persevered and prayed her way through every challenge; never wavering and never giving up. As her favorite Gospel song proclaims: her soul was anchored in the Lord! Cherishing her precious memories are her family, extended family, countless church family members, friends and loved ones.
