Willie Ruth Courtney passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, at the age of 86.
Born on April 6, 1939, in Union County. Willie was the daughter of James Carl Purser and Emma Maebel Williams. She worked at Allen Overall and Labell Industical where she was a sewer. She volunteered at Union County Schools and Hospice of Monroe NC.
Willie was preceded in death by her parents, James Purser and Emma Williams; her husband, George James Courtney Jr., her daughter, Regina Gail Courtney, siblings, Jessie James(David) Purser, Nellie Adaline Merrett, Elizabeth Jane Couick, Barbara Jean Pressley.
Willie loved fishing, her family, outdoors, gardening, picking up pecans from her yard, camping, she loved her kids and grandkids, most of all she loved taking care of others.
Willie is survided by her loving children, two daughters, Deborah C. Rape, and Chrystal Courtney(Brian); two sons, George Ernest Courtney, and James Michael Courtney(Tracy). She is also survived by four sisters, Jonnie Mae Lowder "Sue"(Jerry), Melie Elaine Starnes, Darlene Marie Bragg(Jimmy), and Joyce Dean Tarlton; one brother, Carl Douglas Purser(Robin) and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, neices, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, May 5, 2025 at Holland Funeral Service, 806 Circle Drive, Monroe, NC 28112. Ms. Courtney will be laid to rest at Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the service.
Visitation will be held from 4:00pm until 7:00pm on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Holland Funeral Service.
