Willie's Journey
Willie Robert Harmon, son of the late Ernest Harmon and Rhodie Ann Stevenson, was born, May 25, 1937, in Withams, Virginia. Willie departed this life on July 1, 2025 at Christiana Care Hospital in Newark, Delaware.
Willie was a man who loved the Lord. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church for many years. Under the same charge, he moved his membership to Trinity United Methodist Church until it closed and he returned to St. James where he served on the men's choir. He said several times that we wanted to end where he started from, which was St. James United Methodist Church.
Willie was educated in the public school system of Withams, Virginia, graduating from Mary N. Smith High School. He was an active sports man during his school years. After graduating, he played baseball (pitcher and 2nd baseman) for a team in Pocomoke where they traveled locally for games.
Willie was also a member of the Unionville Lodge No.45 of Pocomoke City, Maryland. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and sports. He had an outgoing personality and was friendly, sociable and enjoyed interactions with others. He loved talking to people even if he didn't know them.
Willie worked for Blades Stone and Gravel for over thirty (30) years before retiring. Over the years, he worked at Pocomoke Elementary School as a custodian, Bennie Smith Funeral Home, and Walmart as a greeter. He loved working and being around people.
Willie Robert Harmon was married to the late Mary Ann Harmon and from that union they had five children. He was preceded in death by: his wife of forty-eight (48) years; two daughters, Peggy Ann Scarborough and Joyce Ann Harmon; a son, Robert Willie Harmon; three sisters, Carrie Taylor, Emma Stevenson and Gloria Schoolfield and three brothers, Harold Taylor, Leonard Harmon, and Brandtly Harmon.
Left to cherish his memories are: his daughter, Christine Harmon Gillette (Frank) of Newark Delaware; his son, Clarence Ernest Harmon (Diane) of Snow Hill, Maryland; a brother, Vernon Taylor of Salem, New Jersey, and a sister, Mildred Milbourne of Parsley, Virginia; four grandchildren, Jarrett Gillette Harmon and Frank Gillette 3rd, both of Newark, Delaware, MyEisha Gillette of Pocomoke, Maryland and Christopher Harmon of Birdsnest, Virginia; one great granddaughter, Jaida Marie Harmon of Newark, Delaware; one son-in-law, William Scarborough of Pocomoke, Maryland; a family friend, Kathy Harmon, of Birdsnest, Virginia and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
