Willie Johnson Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by King-Tears Mortuary, Inc. - Austin on Dec. 28, 2022.
Willie Mae Simmons was born November 29th, 1936, to her parents, Willie B. Simmons and Doris Colvin in Lee County, Texas. Willie Mae and her siblings attended school in Dime Box, Texas. Willie Mae professed a hope in Christ at an early age and served the Lord with her whole heart. As a young child, she began praying for the sick. She was a faithful worker in the church.
She married a young man from Lee County, Earnest D. Lewis. To this union, her beloved children, Rosie Mae Lewis and Robert Earl Lewis were born and were the absolute sunshine of her life. And oh, how she loved her grandchildren! She was later remarried to Raymond Johnson but had no more children.
Though short in stature, she had a mighty spirit and was full of life and animation. Her laugh was infectious, and whenever her head tilted backwards, you knew more laughter was to come. Everything about her was orderly, and just "like so." She kept a spotless home with everything in its rightful place. Everything looked new and well-kept. She would often proclaim, "I had this furniture for x number of years!" Her grandchildren recalled a memory where they'd had a pillow fight involving one of the throw pillows on her bed. They pulled and tugged, then watched in horror as the filling flung across the room. She had a wooden sewing kit With bulging eyes and trembling hands, the pair went for the kit, threaded a needle, and attempted to stitch it back together. Afterwards, they placed the pillow back on the bed and were relieved that moments later, the doorbell rang, and it was time for them to be picked up. Approximately 20 minutes later, they arrived home and like magic, the phone rang. "This is your granny, and I want you to tell me the truth "
Willie Mae, affectionately known as "Blue," to those who knew her, was known for her willingness and determination to serve and provide care to those around her. She was magnificent in that way. She often donated to various causes that were meaningful to her, such as St. Jude and Wounded Warrior Project. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, granny, friend, neighbor, and fishing buddy. Most of all, she was a prayer warrior, just a phone call away. It was understood that upon entering her house, you will be offered something to eat and at some point during the visit, she was going to sing a song about Jesus for you. On birthdays, you'd receive a call from her singing "Happy Birthday," and she'd let you know that she had a little something for you, likely a personalized card with her special touch and her famous pineapple cake.
On December 23rd, 2022, the Author and Finisher of her faith called her to glory. Preceding her in the transition from her earthly life, her grandmother, Mandy Mason; mother, Doris Colvin Simmons; father, Willie B. Simmons; brother, Raymond Simmons; daughter, Rosie Lewis Parker; granddaughter, Deitra Parker; grandson, Tommie Lias (Ginger); sisters, Mattie Mae Roberson and Mary Mayberry; and brothers, L.C.
