Willie Mae Johnson, a woman whose life was a testament to faith and family, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the age of 65. Born in Camilla, Georgia, she was the loving daughter of the late George Hubert Rhodes, Sr. and Lillie Threatts Rhodes.
From her early days at Saint James Missionary Baptist Church to her devoted service at Wrights Grove Baptist Church, Willie Mae's faith shone brightly. As the leader of the Hospitality Ministry, she believed in the simple but profound act of feeding God's people. Whether she was cooking for her own family or for the community at the church's Kingdom Café, her food was her love language, shared with a warm smile.
She was the cherished wife of Larry C. Johnson Sr., and they built a beautiful life together. Willie Mae dedicated her professional life to education, working for the Mitchell County School System for five years and the Monroe County School System for 25 years as a secretary before retiring in 2021.
Willie Mae joins her brother, George H. Rhodes Jr., in eternal rest.
She leaves a legacy of immense love in her husband, Larry C. Johnson Sr., and her children: Erica (Rico) Johnson, Lakeisha (Broderick) Calloway, Larry (Deira) Johnson Jr., and Cedric (Dennetra) Johnson, all of Forsyth, GA, and her bonus son, Krishawn Smith of Utica, NY.
Her joy multiplied through her grandchildren and bonus grandchildren, who were the light of her life: Keshydrick Calloway, Jakayla Johnson, Jhonleah Johnson, Jau'King Colbert, Jaden Colbert, Jirah Colbert, Amari Johnson, Omari Johnson, Jamarius Smith, Michaela McCully, Jamara Smith, Jamiah Smith, Shantavia Colbert, Keondra Calloway, Shaccara Watts, Kaleb Colbert, and DJ Talmadge.
Willie Mae will be forever missed by her sisters, Verna (James) Morman and Kalisha (Clinton) Bell, and her many nieces and nephews. Her memory will also be cherished by her special friends, Benjamin and Elaine Colbert, and all who were blessed to know her.
