Willie James Kimbrough, affectionately known as "Papa," was born on June 28, 1942 in Randolph County, Georgia to the late Deacon Lemuel Kimbrough, Sr. and Louise Crawford-Kimbrough. He was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 4, 2024.
Willie was employed by Winn Dixie Stores, Inc., for many years. He was also a member of the International Longshoremen's Association Local #1408 and the Most Worshipful Union Grand Lodge of Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee Kimbrough; his sons, Kenneth James Kimbrough, and Alfred "Shaka" Kimbrough; his brother, Master Sergeant Alfred Kimbrough; his sister, Erline Scarlett.
Being reared in a Christian home, Willie joined New Mount Lebanon Baptist Church in Webster County, Georgia. After moving to Jacksonville, Florida, he became a member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully for 69 years. He participated in several ministries, such as B. J. Lane Male Chorus, Security, and Usher Board #2.
Willie leaves to cherish his loving memories with four children: Alicia Kimbrough-Maxwell (William Sr.) of Jacksonville, FL, Shelia Simmons-Bermudez (Dionisio) of Jacksonville, FL, Edward Kimbrough Sr., of Jacksonville, FL, Shinita Kimbrough-Reddick (Belay) of Dallas, TX, and LaRawn Middleton of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Karrissia Kimbrough, Quenneth Hartley, Danielle Miles, Jasmine Hills, Stephon Hartley, Destany Miles, Brazia Kimbrough, Marlys Kimbrough, Edward Kimbrough Jr., and Kenny Kimbrough; great-grandchildren, Caden, Jeremiah, Gavin, Malachi, Keagan II, Koa, Obadiah, and Ronin; brothers, Lemuel "Calvin" Kimbrough and Walter Howard Kimbrough (Evelyn); sisters, Marthel Allen, Shirline Hughes, and Mattie "Sweet" Mack; devoted friend, Shirley Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The funeral service for Willie J. Kimbrough will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, December 14th, 2024 at the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church 2036 Silver Street Jacksonville, Florida 32206. The visitation will be 5-7 P.M., Friday, December 13th, 2024 at the Funerals by T.S. Warden 4315 N. Main Street Jacksonville, FL 32206.
