Willie Eugene Lewis, Jr., 83, died on Monday, April 7 at his home. He was born on May 25, 1941 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Willie Eugene Lewis, Sr. and Maggie Harrison. He was raised in Toledo, OH and was the youngest of 5 children and the only boy.
Willie joined the United States Marine Corps in 1962 and was honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal in 1966 while serving in San Francisco, CA. Soon after that Willie joined the United States Postal Service as a Postal Carrier in Los Angeles.
Willie met Rose Ellen Green while working at the Post Office and married the love of his life on February 27, 1971 at the Ministry Chapel in Los Angeles. Jason Eugene Lewis was born out of their love and union. All of their friends and family would learn how they doted on, loved and were so proud of their son, Jason.
Willie worked at the United States Postal Service for over 41 years as a Postal Carrier and then transitioned over to the Postal Inspector as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer. In his later years, he and Rose moved to Stevensville, MD to be near their loving son and his wife, Jennifer and their wonderful three grandsons - Langston, Cairo and Kingston. They adored their grandsons, and spent any time they could with them. Willie would light up any time his grandsons spent time with him and cherished every moment.
Willie was hard working, and extremely well liked and respected by his coworkers and everyone with whom he came into contact. Willie absolutely loved his family. He was a devoted and loyal husband, son, brother, father, grandfather and friend.
Rose and Willie spent 54 amazing and loving years together as husband and wife. They loved traveling, bowling, spending time with family, and vacationing with friends and family.
Willie is survived by his wife, Rose; his son, Jason; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer; his grandsons, Langston, Cairo and Kingston; his nieces, Claudine Nelms and her husband, Melvin, Anita, Dianna and Traci Alexander, Carolyn Robinson and Shawn Bradford; his nephews, William, Charles and Steven Alexander, William Green and his wife, Theresa, Leroy Green and his wife, Shirley, Mitchell Green and his wife, Tanya and Kenyatta Green and his wife, Jennifer and well over 40 great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Louise Stevens, Frances Bosley, Mary Ruth Turner and Dorothy Alexander; his sisters-in-law, Joanne Dodson, Geradine Frye, Gladys Ellis and Louise Douglas.
Funeral service will be held at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Thursday, April 17 at 10:30 am. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Annapolis, MD on Friday, April 18 at 10:30 am
