Willie Carroll Wright

1943 - 2025

Willie Carroll Wright, 81, of Sonora, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at his home with his family, who loved him dearly, by his side.

Born Aug. 24, 1943, in Sonora, Willie lived a life rooted in hard work, family and a land that he loved. He was a passionate farmer, raising livestock, building grain bins and always tending to the crops. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, collecting antiques, but most of all he enjoyed collecting and restoring International tractors in his workshop. He was a member of the Bucksnort Longhunters Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oris and Nellie Kelley Wright

Willie is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Nelda Wright; a loving daughter, Janet Haycraft; his only granddaughter, Megan Clan, married to Jeremiah Clan, who he thought of as a grandson; and two great-granddaughters who held a special place in his heart, Madelyn and Mallorie Clan. He also is survived by aunts, cousins and friends.

The funeral is at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Manakee Funeral Home in Sonora with the Rev. Alicia Akridge officiating. Burial follows by being carried to Sonora Cemetery on wagon being pulled by his International Harvester tractor driven by a dearly loved friend and neighbor, Rod Gipson.
