Willis Higgins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jackson Funeral Service of DeMotte on Mar. 31, 2025.
Willis "Butch" Higgins, 81, of DeMotte, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
Born on May 22, 1943, in East Chicago, Indiana, Butch was the son of Harold and Mary (Kovich) Higgins. He graduated from Dyer Central High School in 1961 and pursued additional college courses at IU Terre Haute, Indiana. Butch was a proud U.S. Army veteran serving in Vietnam. He dedicated over 50 years to his career as a pipefitter with Local 597 overseeing many projects and was well respected on and off the job.
On June 29, 1985, he married Suzanne Bakalar in Crown Point, Indiana, and together they built a loving life. Butch was an avid golfer and woodworker, a devoted Indiana University basketball fan, and a passionate athlete in his younger years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Suzanne Higgins; children, J. Kelly (Elizabeth) Truman of California, Jill L. Truman of Florida, and Jody (Dan) Bohney of Indiana; as well as his nephew Jason (Danielle) Higgins and niece Allison (Doug) Higgins-Ballas, whom he cherished. Butch's legacy also lives on through his 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and a sister.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance at Jackson Funeral Service in DeMotte on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until the Time of Remembrance at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in Butch's honor.

Was glad to get to know Butch as a neighbor the short time I've been here on Sandpiper. He always had a friendly smile on his face. I'm sorry we weren't able to share that golf game we talked about. Our sympathy to Sue and the family.
