A life well Lived
William Cullen Moton
November 18, 1941 - June 27, 2025
William Cullen Moton, "Cullen", as we called him, was born to the late Glen Moton, and Viola Mae Moton in Greenville, South Carolina. He was the second of seven children. William's parents migrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania when he was a young child. He resided there until he became a young adult.
His spirit of adventure inspired him to hitch- hike across the country to California. Because of the draft, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and did a four - year tour including Viet Nam. Eventually, he was given a 100% disability due to exposure to agent orange.
After leaving the Navy, he attended The University of The Americas in Cholula Puebla, Mexico. He studied International Relations and Latin American Studies.
He worked in the local film industry in Mexico. He also had a brief career in Hollywood, where he played an extra in "Buck and the Preacher". While in Mexico, William met, fell in love with, and married Leticia Jaramillo Ponce. To this union was born a daughter, Janett Moton Jaramillo. Settling down was not easy for his adventurous spirit, so he went on to Louisiana where he worked on the oil and gas rigs as a cook.
He returned to Mexico for a while and was love struck for a second time. He married Maria Felix Roman Perez, now deceased. His son William Moton Roman "Billy" was born to this union.
William authored three books. Two can be found on Amazon "Buffalo Soldiers, South of the Rio Grande", and" Stories of the American Frontier Calvary". He also wrote several movie scripts. William led an exciting life, traveling through Mexico, Central and South America during some of their turbulent years.
William entered Eternal Life on Friday, June 27, 2025, at age 83. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Leticia, daughter, Janett, son, William "Billy" his brother Glen (Carole) sisters Betty Turner (George) Winifred, and Brenda. He also leaves grandchildren Samuel Martinez Moton, Sebatian Martinez Moton Scarlet Figueroa Moton children of Janett, and Genesis Moton Vergara daughter of William, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
William was proceeded in death by his father, Glen Moton, mother Viola Clark Moton, brothers Russell and Gregory Moton and his wife Maria Felix Julia Roman Perez.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation and gratitude for the many prayers, cards and expressions of care and comfort during our time of bereavement.
