Willy Kirschbaum, Jr., 87, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025, at UMass Medical Center in Worcester.
He was born on July 20, 1938, in Munich, Germany, the son of the late Elisa and Willy Kirschbaum, Sr.
Mr. Kirschbaum's early education took place in Germany. He later graduated from the former Central New England College of Technology in Worcester. Pursuing his passion, he embarked on a distinguished 38-year career as a mechanical engineer with Waters Corp. in Milford. His contributions to the field were significant, and his expertise was highly respected by colleagues and peers alike.
After his retirement, Willy found joy in working at the pro shop at Southborough Golf Club in Southborough. His love for the game was evident to all who knew him. A resident of Milford for over half a century, his commitment to his community was unwavering. He was an active and dedicated member of the Milford Lions Club, where he devoted his time and energy to various service activities and initiatives.
Willy's faith was an essential part of his life, and he was a devoted member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. His spiritual devotion was a guiding force, providing strength and comfort throughout his journey.
An avid skier, Willy's passion for the slopes was unmatched. He pursued this interest well into his later years, only recently hanging up his skis. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Above all, Willy was a family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne M. (Casamassa) Kirschbaum of 64 years, with whom he shared countless cherished moments. His legacy continues through his daughters, Lisa M. and her husband Thomas Long of Milford, and Mary Beth and her husband John Kelley of Milford. Willy's joy was multiplied by his grandchildren, Matthew Kelley, Ryan Kelley, and Jillian Kelley, who will remember their grandfather for his wisdom and kindness. He also leaves behind cousins in Germany, who, despite the distance, remained close to his heart.
Willy was a man of many talents and interests, but it was his role as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend that he valued above all. Intelligent, analytical, and passionate, he lived a life full of purpose and love. His memory will be cherished, and his presence deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visiting hours will be Friday, Sept. 5, 2025 from 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM in the Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St., Milford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 5 East Main Street, Milford.
Burial, with military honors, will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Milford.
