Wilma Jean Cornwell (nee Doyle), age 93, passed away September 9, 2024 at her residence. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N Canton Rd., Akron, OH 44305). Calling hours will take place from 12-1 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside service will follow the service at 2p.m. at Hillside Memorial Park.
Jean came from a blended family of 13 children. For many years she was the President of the Akron Chapter of Ohio Country Western Music Association and made many dear friends during her time there, and performing at The Barn, a local gathering place for country musicians. She was a self-taught guitarist and singer.
Jean is preceded in death by husband Paul Cornwell (2010), son John Cornwell (2014), and granddaughter Jessica White (2018).
She leaves behind daughters Bonnie Ward of Akron, and Brenda White of Tallmadge; son Tim Cornwell of Texas; grandchildren April Ward of Barberton, Kelly Cotrufo (Gabe) of Wadsworth, Sydney Slonsky of Cuyahoga Falls, Paul Cornwell and Paige Cornwell of Texas; great-grandchildren Brittany Harting of Akron, Kaiden Bos of Akron, Milania and Dante Cotrufo of Wadsworth, and Benjamin White of Mogadore. Jeannie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Have of Rest Ministries (175 E Market St, Akron, OH 44308) or One of a Kind Pet Rescue (1929 W Market St., Akron, OH 44313).
