Wilma A. Popowick, of New Windsor, a homemaker, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, 16 July 2022 at the age of 90 at her home with her loving family by her side.
The daughter of the late William and Regina (Bley) Grube, she was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on 30 June 1932. Wilma is predeceased by her loving husband, George Popowick Sr. on 11 December 1999 and her son in law Raymond McGowan Sr. on 28 June 2015. Wilma is also predeceased by her siblings, Regina Brawner, Dorothy Alexander, John Grube and Fred Martens.
Survivors include her daughter Carol Popowick Robertin, of New Windsor, NY, her son, George Jr. and his wife Teresa of Newburgh, NY and her son Michael and his wife Victoria of Siesta Key, Florida. Grandchildren include Raymond, Jessica, William and Jack all of whom she loved and adored.
Wilma enjoyed crossword puzzles, writing to her hundreds of pen pals all throughout the United States and gardening in her yard with her daughter. She was the best friend, mom and grandmother ever.
Memorial contributions in Wilma's name may be made to her long-time supported charity, Wounded Warriors.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 21 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh, with burial following in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor.
