Wilma "Ruth" Russell, a beloved figure whose vibrant spirit and unwavering loyalty left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her, departed this life on April 3, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on May 15, 1940, in Curtis, Arkansas, Wilma was a glamorous lady full of life, whose witty sense of humor and infectious laughter brought joy to every gathering.
Throughout her career, Ruth showcased her remarkable versatility throughout many jobs, a few being elevator operator in her early years, before going into retail work at Jos. A. Bank Clothing. Her journey then led her to become a distinguished real estate agent, followed by her tenure as a sales associate at Walmart, all of which she undertook with determination and resilience until her well-deserved retirement. Her vivacious personality endeared her to coworkers and clients alike, allowing her to forge lasting connections in her professional life.
In her younger years, Ruth delighted in going out and dancing, often the life of the party. Garage sales were among her cherished pastimes, where she not only excelled in finding treasures but also relished the company of friends and family who accompanied her. Ruth never passed up an opportunity to buy a lottery ticket, she had found peace and fulfillment in flowers and gardening, a hobby that reflected her nurturing spirit and love for growth. Above all, however, she treasured the moments spent with her loved ones, taking great pride in her role within the family. Ruth is survived by her devoted daughters, Susan Houghtaling and Renee Norris (Jonathan), who continue to carry her legacy of love and laughter. She was a proud grandmother to Christina Clevinger and Alexandrea Champion, and her three great-grandchildren. Her family also encompasses numerous cherished nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Ruth was preceded in death and now reunited with her loving parents, Clevo White and Letha Bentley, and her siblings, Leo Jewel White, Roy Allen White, and Bertha "Odean" White Russell, who together welcomed her into the gates of Heaven.
A memorial service honoring Ruth's life and legacy will be held on April 9, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel, located in Malvern, Arkansas. Family and friends are invited to gather from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM to celebrate the joy that Wilma brought to their lives, as they reflect on the memories that will forever remain etched in their hearts. Following services the family invites all to a Luncheon at Trinity Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 1420 Sulphur Springs road, Malvern, Arkansas, 72104
