Wilma Weeter Obituary

Waverly Wilma Jean (Matthews) Weeter, 96 of Waverly, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born on May 15, 1929 to the late Raymond Walter Matthews and Edith Anne (Legg) Matthews. On August 7, 1947 she was united in marriage for 78 years to Floyd Jackson "Jack" Weeter, Jr. of Waverly. Surviving are her children; Lynn Alycia (Jeff) McCoy of Cardington and Lorne Alan Weeter of Centerville, Ohio; grandchildren, Christopher Clarke, Elizabeth (Ed) Eckard, Kimberly Clarke, Alan (Kali) Weeter and Bradley (Alysha) Weeter, great grandchildren; Adah Clarke, Zoe Clarke, Tessa Clarke and Symona Clarke, Noah Eckard, Jackson Eckard, Logan Weeter, Peyton Weeter, Carter Weeter, Kalan Weeter, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends and her siblings: Arnold (Janet) Matthews, Rosetta Minor, and Connie (Ron) Chandler. In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Weeter, Jr., her sister, Ruth McAllister (Earl), brothers: Richard Matthews (Katie), George Matthews, great grandson, Gregory Clarke and nephews and nieces.

Wilma was born on Smith Hill at the Greer Place, the family home, and grew up in Pike County on the Matthews family's farm. She graduated from Piketon High School in 1947. As a teenager she was employed as a housekeeper and laundress. Although Wilma was a homemaker, raising her family, she also was employed at various times by L.E. Meyers and The Waverly News Watchman.

Spring was Wilma's favorite time of year when everything returned fresh and new after a long cold winter, often having her picture taken with the beautiful flowers in their yard. She loved spending time with her family: husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, attending family reunions, visiting with her brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces. Wilma attended Waverly Church of Christ in Christian Union Church in the 1970's singing in the choir and teaching kindergarten age Sunday school. She was also part of New Covenant Church and attended Dale Reed's church as well as Bethel Church in Piketon. She was an excellent cook making many homemade delights for each person to enjoy. Every delicacy: her egg noodles, cinnamon rolls, raisin pudding, various pies and special birthday cakes for each child and grandchild were anxiously awaited and savored at every family celebration. Wilma was a great friend and neighbor caring for each person. She was a supportive mother and friend, always putting the needs of others above her own. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly with Pastor Dale Reed officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm. until the time of the service at the funeral home. www.botkinhornbackfuneralhomes.com Wilma Weeter
