Wilmer "Will" Iron Boulder (Igugu Maza) made his journey to the spirit world on June 30, 2024. He passed away peacefully at Sanford Hospital surrounded by all his family.
Will was born on October 11, 1970, to June Iron Boulder and David "Bud" Chapman. He grew up mostly in Fort Yates, Wahpeton Indian School and graduated from Flandreau Indian School. Will had such an amazing, loving, bold, and comedic personality. He brought so much laughter and joy into any room he entered. There wasn't ever a day where he wasn't smiling or making someone else smile.
Will was an amazing athlete. He excelled in every sport he played. His favorite sports were basketball, football, and softball. He loved fishing, hunting and camping. Just about anything that was outdoors.
Will had such a charismatic personality that attracted so many people. He had so many friends from all different walks of life, but he never called them friends, everyone was family to him. He would do anything to help his family. Will was that one person you could always depend on. He was always ready and willing to help someone in need. He would give you all his food, his last dollar, the shirt off his back and the shoes off his feet if you needed it. He was always giving and never wanting anything in return.
Will was so versatile, adaptive, resourceful and intelligent. He could literally do anything! If he didn't know how to do something, you can bet that he would figure it out! Throughout his life he worked a variety of jobs, ranging from ranch hand to construction to the restaurant industry to coaching youth sports. All of these experiences led to some great stories, and Will would always be the one getting friends and family together to eat, visit and have fun. Even if siblings or friends were feuding, he'd say "we're family!" We don't need to be holding grudges, "Life's too short!" He always spoke with powerful knowledge and truth.
Will lived an eventful, exciting and spontaneous and hard life. His journey took him to many places, meeting many people, that led him to be known by many names. A friend, a brother, a warrior, a lover, a true bro, a survivor. But the name he was most proud of was: A Father.
Will always thought of himself as a "Chief." Being a dad meant a lot to him. He had his first born, Annika (Sonja) in 1996. After that came all of his boys. Misun (Dawn), Matthew and Nathaniel (Mandi). He admired and loved his kids so much. He would do anything for them, when given the opportunity.
In 2011, Will met the love of his life, Angelica. They met working together at a restaurant. Will proudly accepted her daughter, Maya, as his own. In 2012, they had their first daughter, Raelene. They lived in Bismarck for a couple for a couple years before moving to Twin Buttes to settle down. In 2019, they had their first son together, Junior. Less than a year later, their second son, Solomon. That completed their family. Will was such a proud father and always wanted to get all his children together to meet. His heart was definitely happy and content the day he passed, because all his kids did come together to be with him.
Will is survived by his significant other, Angelica (Twin Buttes) His children: Annika (Ft. Yates), Misun (ft. Yates, Matthew and Nathaniel (Bismarck) Maya, Raelene, Junior and Soloman (Twin Buttes) His grandchildren: Kortez and Scarlett (Ft. Yates) His siblings Ann (Bismarck), Joe (Bismarck), Robin (New Town), Brian (Florida), Tim (Montana, Nikki (Bismarck) and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by grandparents: Melda and Solomon (Porcupine) his parents: June (Porcupine) David (Ft. Yates, his brother: Terry (Selfridge).
*Fun fact. Will was an old soul but young at heart. He never wanted to look or feel old. His heart melted when his grandchildren were born, but he wanted to be called uncle instead of grandpa.
