Published by Legacy on Nov. 12, 2025.
Wilson F. Machin, Jr., age 79, passed away on October 5, 2025.

Born on January 28, 1946, to the late Wilson F. Machin, Sr., and Thelma C. (nee Bayne) Machin. He is survived by his brother Dennis and his wife Jane, two nephews Michael (Rebecca) and Matthew.

Wilson grew up in Timonium and was a 1964 graduate of Dulaney Senior High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from The University of the State of New York and a Masters of Business Administration from George Mason University.

Wilson entered the Army after high school. He served two tours in Vietnam. During his second tour in 1968, Warrant Officer Machin distinguished himself by valorous actions while serving as aircraft commander of a UH-1H helicopter. He was required to fly through extremely adverse weather conditions at night. He hovered his aircraft in direct fire of the enemy as the patrol climbed on board by a rope ladder. He saved six men from probable capture or death. For his heroism, Wilson received the Distinguished Flying Cross. After Vietnam he went on to become a utility/observation helicopter pilot and flight instructor at Ft. Belvoir, VA.

After leaving the Army he worked in IT at Voice of America.

In his leisure time, Wilson enjoyed playing golf.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 28th at 10:00 am, at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 8420 Belair Road, Nottingham Maryland, 21236.

Internment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.
