Wilton James McLean, 83, of Bladenboro, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville. He was born on May 18, 1942, in Bladen County to the late Henry McLean and Ruby Hughes McLean.

Wilton's life was marked by his unwavering love for his family. He was a devoted father, husband, and grandfather who found immense joy in spending time with his grandchildren, creating lasting memories that they will cherish forever. His dedication extended beyond family, as he was a hard worker who showed great strength and resilience, particularly during his wife Wanda's illness.

Wilton was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wanda McLean; his parents; and siblings: Robert McLean, Barden McLean, Myrtle Lee Baxley, Henry Clyde McLean, Stella Spell, Norma Outlaw, Marie Horton, and Vivian West.

Wilton is survived by his son, Kevin McLean (Renee) of Bladenboro; daughters: Rhonda Rhodes (Tracy) of Knightdale, and Beth McLean of Bladenboro; brothers: Horace McLean (Linda), Mitchell McLean, and Eugene McLean (Mary Ann), all of Bladenboro; sister, Esther Hood (Bruce) of Bladenboro; grandchildren: Amber Avery (Tim), Daniel Jackson, Colby McLean (Ashton), and Jenna McLean; and great-grandchildren: Caleb Deese, Kylee Deese, Ryder Hairr, Rilee Avery, and Peyton Avery.

An outdoor enthusiast at heart, Wilton loved fishing and hunting, and he relished the simple pleasures of eating fish and drinking Pepsi. As an avid sports fan, he took great pleasure in watching his son, Kevin, play ball, and he enjoyed taking Greg Goodwin to ballgames. Wilton was also fond of classic television, frequently tuning into shows like Gunsmoke, MASH, and The Andy Griffith Show, which provided him with countless hours of enjoyment.

A man of deep faith, Wilton was proud of his connection to his church and his commitment to the Lord. His personality was a reflection of the love and devotion he held for his family and friends, and his presence will be significantly missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends from 6-8PM on Monday, March 9th at New Light Church in Bladenboro. A funeral service will take place at the same location on Tuesday, March 10th at 11AM with Reverend Dale Hester and Reverend Bobby Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Memory Lane Cemetery in Bladenboro.
