Wilton DeShazo Moore, Jr.,95, of Richmond, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Our Lady of Hope Health Center.
W. D. was born and raised in Mathews and loved the Middle Peninsula. He crabbed and raked oysters as a child, many times arriving late for school as “his enterprise” was quite important to him. He graduated from Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, and served during the Korean War. He followed in his father’s footsteps and spent his entire 30+ year career with New York Life Insurance Company, the majority of it as General Manager in Louisville, KY, where Lori and Steve were raised. He was active in the Louisville Rotary Club as well as the church—both Christ Church United Methodist in Louisville and Williamsburg UMC, serving as a frequent usher. He took early retirement at the age of 55 and returned to Virginia where he and his wife, Patricia Moore, built a home on the Piankatank River. They spent 30 years in Gloucester and moved to a 55+ Richmond retirement community in 2021. W. D. never met a stranger and was friends with everyone. He enjoyed fishing and nature. He was a loving father and doting grandfather of five grandchildren. Everyone loved to go to the “Rivah” as it was truly like going away to summer camp. There were always fun adventures to be had on the water. He spent the last 1.5 years in Assisted Living at Our Lady of Hope in Richmond. The community loved him.
He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia G. Moore.
He is survived by his daughter, Lori Caumeil (Jean-Paul); a son, Steve Moore (Leigh Ane); grandchildren, Mary-Madeleine Caumeil, Veronique Caumeil, Carol-Ann Moore, John Wilton Moore, and Luke Moore; a sister, Betty Lewis; a sister-in-law, Audrey Steel, and numerous nieces and one nephew.
A funeral service was held on Monday, December 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, with burial to follow in H. C. Smither Cemetery, Hudgins, Virginia.
