Winifred L. Ferguson, age 100, of Laporte, PA, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025. Winnie was born July 22, 1925, in East Greenbush, NY, a daughter of the late Ralph John Griswold and Analda Rosemarie Fournier Griswold.
She graduated from Hoosick Falls High School, Hoosick Falls, NY, a member of the Class of 1942. She completed a two-year business course at Troy Business College Troy, NY in 1943. She worked in various administrative positions at Russell Sage College for over 30 years. She married J. Wilson Ferguson, History Professor at Russell Sage College and they retired to Laporte, PA in l994.
Winnie was a member of the Laporte United Methodist Church. She was a past 4H Club Leader, Past District Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star of the State of New York, past president of the Laporte Borough Council, past President of the Laporte Women’s Club, a 28-year board member of Sullivan County Victim Services and a member of the Laporte Lappers Cancer Team. She enjoyed traveling, hiking, and
fundraising for all the organizations in Laporte.
She was predeceased by her husband Wilson Ferguson, daughter, Bette Ann Frisino, brothers Ralph John and Earl Frances Griswold, and sisters Patricia Heise and Beverly Slocum.
Surviving are a brother Rudy (Clara) Griswold, Anthony, NM; and a daughter Barbara (Donald) Herrington, Starksboro, VT; grandson, Eric (Tegan) and son-in-law Joel Frisino, Johnsonville, NY; Stepson John Ferguson (Andrea) and step-grandsons, Nicholas and Ryan, Fairfax, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Laporte United Methodist Church, Laporte, PA. Interment will follow in the Mt. Ash Cemetery, Laporte, PA.
