Winnie Breier Obituary

Published by Legacy from Aug. 23 to Aug. 24, 2025.
Winifred (Winnie) Mahoney Breier (nee Tobin), 82, of Alpharetta, GA, passed away peacefully on August 19 lovingly surrounded by family. She is survived by her beloved husband Jack of 27 years; loving mother of William (Laurie) Mahoney, Brian Mahoney (Tammy), Kevin (Denise Cash) Mahoney, Margie (Mike) Hewel, Cheryl (Jay) Clarke, John (Amanda) Breier; proud grandma to Amanda (Chad) Barringer, Lauren (Jake)Lordo, Jenna (Sean) Fitzpatrick, Sean Mahoney; Billy, Maggie, and Ava Mahoney; Catherine, Elena, and Patrick Clarke; Claire and JR Breier; McKenna and Morgan Hewel; and Max Cash; cherished great-grandma to Vivienne Fitzpatrick and Cora Lordo. Beloved sister to Peggy (Ron) McGovern, Eileen Scofield; and Jack Tobin (late Evelyn); dear sister-in-law of Charlie (Angie) Breier, Ron (Kathy) Breier; Marilyn (the late Tony) Vacca, Jeff (the late Ann) Koch; the late Rich and Karen Breier; devoted daughter of the late John and Alice Tobin; adored aunt to many nieces and nephews; loving friend to too-many-to-count from Chicago to Georgia.

She was proud "Southsider" and it was there she met and married Bill Mahoney in 1962. Bill and Winnie raised three sons until his passing in August 1991. Winnie enriched the lives of all who knew her warmth, compassion, and strength. Family was Winnie's greatest priority. She dedicated herself fully to raising her children and shared her nurturing spirit with her grandchildren and dozens of nieces and nephews. Winnie faithfully served St. Brendan's Catholic Church as a volunteer in the ministries, always lending a helping hand at funeral luncheons or supporting the Knights of Columbus efforts for the Alpharetta and Cumming, GA communities.

Kindness, compassion, humility and loyalty were cornerstones to Winnie's character. She taught by example, emphasizing patience, forgiveness, and a deep faith in God. Being home with Jack was her haven, filled with contentment from simple pleasures of going to plays, movies, out to dinner, drinking from her big gulp, and sharing heartfelt conversations from her beloved chair with her "woobie," or from her kitchen table. She and Jack loved to travel and would bring her children and grandchildren on trips often. Even in challenging times Winnie found most of her joy in the ordinary moments, guiding others with wisdom and grace.

Winnie will be forever remembered for her genuine warmth, and unwavering devotion to God and those she loved.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 9th @ 11:00 am at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church, 4633 Shiloh Road, Cumming, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Knights of Columbus at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church would be appreciated. Donations can be made to the link provided below.
