Winona Schaap

Winona Schaap age 96, of Holland, died Monday, January 12, 2026, at an area care center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Laverne, a grandson Ryan Helder, and a great-granddaughter, Kara Joy Nyland.

She was a member of Haven Christian Reformed Church and worked for the Holland Public Schools bus department for 20 years.

Winona is survived by her children, Elaine and Ed Helder, Nancy and Wayne Van Ommen, Marc and Deb Schaap, Jeff and Paula Schaap, Kevin and Jana Schaap; 12 grandchildren, Terry and Kim Nyland, Andy and Kim Helder, Jeff and Rhonda O'Kronley, Kevin and Tracy Nowaczyk, Michael and Lisa Van Ommen, Tim and Jill Hofman, Jason and Michelle DeMott, David and Lindsey Schaap, Bruce and Amy Kleinheksel, John and Dana Cleveringa, Steven Schaap, Dan and Tricia Koeman; 26 great grandchildren; 3 great- great grandsons; siblings, Geneva Nagelkirk, Erwin and Bonnie Nagelkirk, Carol Brower; sister-in-law, Marilyn Schaap; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St., Holland, with Rev. Kevin Kleinheksel officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday, January 16, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Right to Life, Lakeshore Pregnancy Center, or Corewell Health Hospice.
