J.M. White Funeral Home & Cremations - HendersonBERMUDA RUN – Winston Richmond “Rich” Harriss, Jr., 85, formerly of Peace Street, died October 13, 2025, at Bermuda Run Retirement Village.
Born December 17, 1939 in Richmond County, GA, he was the son of the late Lester Bohler Harriss-Sheafe and Winston Richmond Harriss, Sr. and the widower of Hedda H. Harriss.
Rich was a member of First United Methodist Church in Henderson. Rich graduated from Harlem High School in 1956 and graduated from Emory University in 1960, then received his Masters Degree from the University of Georgia in 1970. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force (1960-1969) and served two tours in Vietnam as a pilot. Rich served Henderson as Post Master from 1972 until his retirement in 1999. He enjoyed golfing, traveling and visiting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Henderson on Friday, November 7, 2025 at 3 pm with visitation following at the church. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Collins and husband, Joe of Clemmons; his sister, Phyllis Miller of Decatur, GA; three grandchildren, Jessica Powers and husband James, Christopher Collins and wife, Natalie, and Julia Grace Collins; and great-granddaughters Caroline Powers and Catherine and Renner Collins.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Mitchell Harriss and brother-in-law William O. Miller.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 114 Church St. Henderson, NC 27536.
