Woodrow Albert Mullis

1957 - 2025

Woodrow "Woody" Albert Mullis, 68, of Fernandina Beach, Florida, passed away on September 8, 2025, from chronic heart failure. He spent his last weeks at his home, surrounded by love.

Born July 20, 1957, to the late Eva Mae Smith and Luther Darrel Mullis, Woody grew up in Fernandina Beach, where he cherished family and lifelong friendships. A 1975 graduate of Fernandina Beach High School, he joined Up With People and traveled the world before pursuing music full time.

In 1977, Woody moved to Nashville to follow his dream, and for more than three decades he made a life in music as a songwriter, guitarist, and performer. Woody was an immensely talented musician and wrote numerous top country hits. 

Beyond his music, Woody's greatest joy was his daughter, Catherine Amelia Mullis (32), whom he adored. He is also survived by his half-brother, Kevin Mullis, and his loyal Labrador, Nash, as well as a wide circle of loving family and friends.

Woody was charismatic, quick-witted, and full of warmth. He had a gift for making every interaction memorable and a rare ability to connect with people through both words and music. He loved being on the water and fishing and made many loving friends at Elm Hill Marina in Nashville, TN. Woody's legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved him, in the songs he wrote, and in the stories we will continue to tell.
