Y'Vonnie Westbrook Walker

Y'Vonnie Walker, age 93, passed away on September 27, 2025, in Mendenhall, MS. Y'Vonnie was born on June 13, 1932, in Covington County, MS.
She lived most of her life in Mendenhall. She graduated from Mendenhall High School and Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Y'Vonnie worked for South Central Bell Telephone in Jackson for a few years before beginning her work career in Mendenhall as city clerk and later with the office of the Simpson County Chancery Clerk.
Y'Vonnie was an excellent seamstress and also enjoyed cooking food to share with others. Over the years, she made many beautiful quilts. There were too many to count. She gave most of the quilts to family and friends and even donated some for fundraisers.
She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Mendenhall. She served in many areas over the years. One of her favorite areas of service was working with the children in Bible Drill. She was a faithful prayer warrior for her family and friends.
Y'Vonnie was preceded in death by Pete Walker, her husband of 66 years; her parents, Virgil and Stella Westbrook; brothers, George Westbrook and Eddie Westbrook; and great-granddaughter Stella Rose Rhein.
She is survived by her three children, Debbie Dossey (John), Delene Craft (Paul), and Wayne Walker (Robin); sister, Peggy Williamson; sister-in-law, Becky Parks (Billy); grandchildren, Cori Smith (Casey), Taylor Woods, Jake Walker, Paul Craft, Jr. (Leigh), Brian Craft (Ana), Amanda Rhein (Steve); great-grandchildren, Charleigh Smith, Carson Smith, Claire Craft, Karis Craft, Victoria Craft, Clayton Woods (Natalie), Jayse Rhein, Liam Rhein, Magnolia Rhein and great-great-granddaughter, Laine Woods.
The family would like to thank Dr. Chip Holbrook and the entire staff at Simpson General Hospital, as well as Strong River Assisted Living, for all the compassionate and loving care shown to our mother.
Visitation will be on Monday, September 29, 2025, at Tutor Funeral Home in Mendenhall, MS, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. The service will take place at 10:00 a.m. in the Tutor Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Joe Wiggins officiating. Interment will follow in Mendenhall City Cemetery.
