Yolanda “Yoly” was born on August 10, 1936, in the Philippines to Agapito Penus and Faustina Fernandez (both deceased).
Early in her life, Yoly received an A.S. degree in Commerce that equipped her professional years in office administration and management when she worked for Aboitiz and the family-owned YB Industrial Inc. in the Philippines. In the U.S., she worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) supporting their classified personnel department. After 17 years, she retired from LAUSD in 2002 and became a homemaker.
On family, Yoly married Bonifacio “Boni” Laserna in 1964; they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary early this year. To their union are four children: Nerissa, Erwin (deceased), Eric, and Neil. She was a very loving wife and parent and was a straight shooter on most things. Besides family, Yoly’s passion was in cooking. Her family loved her crispy pata, sinigang catfish sa miso, dinuguan, and adobo to name a few. Her passion was also to help people as much as she can especially their extended family in the Philippines. She also loved to travel and watch her Filipino TV shows.
Yoly leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Boni, children: Nerissa, Eric & Michelle (daughter in law), Neil, and grandchildren: Rochelle, Paul III, Christian, Andre, and Celine. She also leaves her two sisters: Lucia Pablo and Luvina Vidanes. She also leaves her closest nephews and nieces: Emmy Cooper, Eileen Simphaly, Larry Penus, Velcie Abando, Pepe Penus, Laarni Abad, Ofelia Colico, and a host of other relatives and friends.
