Yvonne R. Loury

Yvonne Rushent Oram Loury, 90, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Richmond County Hospice Haven.
She was born July 13, 1934, in Overton, England, daughter of the late Frederick Oram and Frances Oram.
Yvonne was a lady of perseverance and determination. While still in England, she attended the University of Londen. She met her future husband and father of her children, Douglas J. Loury, while he was serving in the United States military in England. They moved to the United States in 1955 where they began raising their family.
Yvonne was a strong advocate for women of domestic violence and initiated the remodel of the women's shelter in Richmond County. During her working years, she served for more than 30 years as the Executive Director of the United Way. She loved being proactive in the community as she served.
Yvonne was an avid golfer, loved to travel, and enjoyed trying new restaurants. Cooking was one of her passions, and roast beef and Yorkshire pudding was her specialty. She truly loved her family and will be dearly missed.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, Douglas J. Loury and Jack Johnston.
Left to cherish Yvonne's memories are her children, Suzanne Loury, Sabrina B. Fox, Ashley Douglas Loury, and Jayne Gibbs, all of Rockingham; grandchildren, Christopher Hinson (Jamie), Lauren Parrisher (Neil), Stuart Spurlin, Audra Padgett (Clint), Etta Katie Bowman (James), Erin Fox (Charlie Martin), Gavin Oneal, and Carlie Oneal; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; extended family, Joey Jones, Steve Spurlin, and Jack D. Fox; brothers, Richard Oram (Jo) and George Oram, both of England; and two nieces and two nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 1:00-2:00pm at the Episcopal Church of the Messiah, North Lawrence Street, Rockingham.
The memorial service will begin immediately following visitation, at 2:00pm, with Father Steven "Chipper" Long officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at the church.
