Dorothy Yvonne Loury of Rockford departed this earthly life May 12, 2025. She was born August 1, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of Leo and Dorothy Johnson. Dorothy lived in Rockford most of her life coming from Detroit, MI. She married Wayne Loury Sr., May 21, 1966, he preceded her in death. Dorothy was employed as a machine operator by Amerock 30 years before retiring. Dorothy was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, in the Choir and Mother of the church and with the Missionary cooking team to serve the homeless at Carpenters Place. She graduated from West High School and earned her Associates Degree from Rock Valley College.
Dorothy leaves to cherish many loving memories her son, Nathaniel (Amanda) Loury; five grandchildren, Deangelo and Gabriel Loury, Adrien (Amber) Jenkins, Seth (Lana) Hearns and Channing Lewis; four great grandchildren; sister, Delores Pendergrass; three brothers, Ronald Johnson, Dewayne (Linda) Johnson, and Clinton (Sandra) Metcalf; a host of nieces, nephews cousins other relatives and friends including special niece/daughter, Pamela Morris; special nieces, Ebony (Eric) Martin and Shakeeta Cotton and special cousin, Wendy (Keith) Webb. She was predeceased by her, mother; Dorothy Rush; father Leo Johnson; husband, Wayne Loury Sr; daughter Brandi Loury; son, Wayne Loury Jr; step daughter, Donise Thomas; and brother, Leo Johnson.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church 1502 Rose Ave. Burial in Cedar Bluff Cemetery. Visitation 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc. 200 N. Johnston Ave.
