Zachary R. Holmes

Zachary Rex Holmes 68, of Golden Eagle passed suddenly at his home on Monday, April 7, 2025. Zach was born in Carrollton, IL on November 6, 1956. He was the youngest child of the late Louis and Kathryn (Wyatt) Holmes. He married Donna Odelehr on February 7, 1998, at St. Mary's Catholic church in Brussels. He is survived by his wife Donna (Odelehr) Holmes and their son Zachary Anthony Holmes, his former wife Donna Pyatt and their son James Nicholas Holmes; His grandchildren James (Jenna) Holmes of Jerseyville, and Gretchen Hilburn of Timewell, IL. Great grandchildren Braxton Holmes and Maizley Holmes. A brother Louis "Kriby" and Mary Holmes of Carrolton and a sister-in-law Linda Holmes of Jerseyville, and many nieces and nephews that held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and brother in laws, Betty and Dennis Newingham, Anita Taylor, Brenda and Clarence (Ed) Gilbert and a brother James Holmes. Niece Melissa (Holmes) Veenendall and two nephews Craig Holmes and Eric Taylor.
Zach attended school in Carrolton where he enjoyed playing on the Hawks high school football team. He worked 30+ years at Parsell Truck Equipment in Jerseyville as a welder. He enjoyed making things with metal and wood. If Zach made something it wasn't going to come apart easily. He also loved hunting and the outdoors. He never missed a deer season and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brother Jim, though they enjoyed going out for breakfast together just as much as the time spent hunting and fishing. Zach was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday April 12, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Gress, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Brussels.
Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Brussels.
