Zachary "Zak" L. Kacmarz, 77, of Watersmeet Michigan formerly of Blue Island and New Lenox Illinois passed away on April 22, 2025.
Zak was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 7, 1947 to Joseph and Virginia (Lewandowski) Kacmarz. He was a US Army veteran and pipefitter for Commonwealth Edison of Illinois of which he retired. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Nottingham), his parents and his sister and brother-in-law, Antoinette (Donald) Pacholski. Zak is survived by his nephew Kevin (Kara) Pacholski and niece Katie (Derek) Hawk and so many friends.
To his family, he was fondly known as "Moose". He loved nature and the unending learning potential of Upper Michigan. After retiring to Michigan to the land that he personally built his original A- Frame home that was later expanded to provide for all his needs, he enjoyed everything about nature from attending classes on the wolf population, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, hiking, exploring the local waterfalls and kayaking on his own and with the "Diva's" of Dinner Lake and of course others. He kept his kayak on the top of his car in case the whim struck him to set out and find a lake to check out. He had a number of stories about different encounters with bears, bobcats, moose and birds. Zak was handy and added his personal touches to his cabin in the woods where he enjoyed the peace and solitude that it held for him. He was fortunate to find a great group of friends in the area.
His kindness and love for everyone was endless and he will be greatly missed.
