Zachary William Salley, 23, of
San Marcos, Texas, passed away on July 13, 2025, from injuries sustained in a tragic fire in Wimberley. His passing has left a profound void in the lives of those who loved him and in the hearts of everyone who was fortunate enough to know him.
Born on September 8, 2001, in Houston, Texas, Zach was a quiet force-brilliant, inquisitive, and always learning, with a compassion for others that often surpassed his own needs. He had a sharp, dry wit and a deep love for music, video gaming, animation, movies, F1 racing, and meaningful conversations. Zach was a deep thinker, often surprising others with his extensive knowledge of the most abstract topics that captured his interest. Like many young men his age, Zach and his brother grew up loving all things Star Wars, Back to the Future, and Lord of the Rings. As boys, they enjoyed watching or attending WWE events, occasionally breaking household items during their rambunctious reenactments of their favorite wrestlers. Zach was musically gifted, playing the saxophone in his high school band. His eclectic taste in music led him to share new bands and genres with family and friends, broadening their musical horizons.
Zach attended Texas State University for two years before forging a different path. Shortly before his passing, he had been pursuing a career as a journeyman electrician, recently earning acceptance into an electrician apprenticeship program-a milestone that filled him and his loved ones with pride. This choice reflected his desire to build something real and lasting.
He worked at Brookshire Brothers and Savage's Hill Country Bar & Grill in Wimberley, where his quiet dedication and steady presence left a lasting impression. More than anything, it was his character-loyal, thoughtful, and insightful-that truly defined him. Zach had a unique ability to quietly connect with others, becoming a faithful and loyal friend.
One of Zach's most cherished friendships was with his close friend Bobby. The two shared countless road trips, deep conversations about life and the future, and a quiet understanding of one another. Bobby stood by Zach throughout his journey, encouraging his career aspirations and being there in the moments that mattered most.
Zach is survived by his father, Robert Salley, and stepmother, Sherri Salley, of
San Marcos, Texas; his older brother, Robert Austin Salley, his wife, Lianna, and their newborn daughter, Olivia, of New Braunfels, Texas; and his stepbrothers, Michael Keller of Seattle, Washington, Christopher Keller of Houston, Texas, and Patrick Keller of Cincinnati, Ohio. He is also survived by his beloved step-grandparents, Wendell and Jo Ann Zumwalt, of Houston, Texas, and a bountiful family of aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom he loved dearly.
Zach was preceded in death by his mother, Shelly Lewis Salley, of Houston, Texas. We find comfort knowing that Zach and Shelly are reunited in Heaven, celebrating with our Father. Zach was also preceded in death by all his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Zach will be remembered for his sharp mind, gentle soul, and unshakable kindness. He didn't seek the spotlight, but he illuminated the lives of those who truly knew him. His absence is felt in every quiet moment, every inside joke, and every road not taken. Yet his presence remains-in memory, in spirit, and in the love he left behind. Zach will always be loved by those who knew him.
A celebration of life service will be held at Jacob's Well Vineyard, 3200 Mt Sharp Rd, Wimberley, Texas, on August 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM. The family is establishing a fund in Zachary's honor with the mission to provide medical assistance, emotional support, and resources to burn victims and their families during trying times. We aim to fund critical medical care, raise awareness about burn prevention and recovery, and offer compassionate support to help families navigate their challenges with hope and resilience.
