Zane Shockley King

Zane Shockley King, 88, of Belton, SC, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025.

Born December 26, 1937, in Belton, SC, he was a son of the late John Mattison King and Vivian Nell Shockley King. He was also preceded in death by his son, Greg King; and brothers, Bob King, Bill King, and David King.

Zane was a graduate of Anderson College and was a career military man retiring from the United States Navy with the rank of Chief. He was also a Navy recruiter at Georgia Tech and University of Georgia. He was an avid baker who loved to bake with his children and then passed along that love to his grandchildren. He enjoyed birdwatching and traveling with his wife, especially to the coast and on cruises. He was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church of Belton.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Escoe King; daughters, Julie King Ridgeway (Martin) of Greenwood, SC, and Jan King Bratcher (Mike) of Anderson; sister-in-law, Margaret King of Belton, SC; grandchildren, Brett Bratcher (Gabby) of Raleigh, NC, Blair Vestrand (Neil) of Orlando, FL, Addison Ridgeway (Becca) of Anderson, SC, and Ben Ridgeway (Margaret) of Greenwood, SC; and 6 great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11:00 am at Second Baptist Church of Belton with Rev. Jonathan Overstreet officiating. Committal with military honors will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 10:00-10:45 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Second Baptist Church of Belton, 5901 Belton Hwy., Belton, SC 29627.
