Zeda A. Mayes, affectionately known as "Zedie," was born on January 11, 1953, in Memphis, TN, and peacefully departed this world on January 9, 2026, in Southaven, MS. Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love for her family, a passion for gardening, and the joy she took in nature and music.
A dedicated mother, "Nene", Zedie cherished her family above all else. Her children, Spring and Thomas, carry on her legacy, reflecting her vibrant spirit in their lives. She took immense pride in her grandchildren, Jory, Logan, Heaven, and Rheno, and her great-grandchildren, Valkyrie and Jase, who were rays of sunshine in her life. Zedie's sister, Aliene, remained a constant source of support and companionship, along with Nieces and Nephew, Susie, Little Mark, and Brandy, with while her best friend, Dempsey, found solace in the unwavering kindness she extended during his times of need.
Zedie's love for plants and her green thumb were legendary; her home and garden were living expressions of her free spirit. She found joy in the simple act of cleaning, taking pride in creating a warm and inviting environment for those she loved. Her heart was as open as the great outdoors she cherished, embodying forgiveness and love for everyone around her.
Zedie's vibrant spirit was complemented by her lifelong love for music. The melodies served as a backdrop to her gardening, cleaning, and cherished moments spent in the outdoors with her beloved dog, Epic. This connection to nature and rhythm fueled her soul, allowing her to share joy and solace with all who crossed her path.
Her legacy will forever be marked by the love she gave, the memories she created, and the lessons she imparted to those who cherished her. Zeda A. Mayes leaves behind a profound impact on her family and friends, who will remember her as a loving presence enveloped in warmth and kindness. Her parents, Louis Cahill and Ruth Burke, along with her sister, Kitty Butler, and her beloved fur baby, Epic, will welcome her in eternal peace.
As we gather to celebrate Zedie's remarkable journey, let us cherish the memories she gifted us: the laughter shared, the love poured into every corner of her home, and the unwavering support she offered whenever it was needed. She will be missed tremendously, but her spirit will continue to shine brightly in our hearts, guiding us as we navigate this world without her gentle touch.
