Zelda DeYoung Obituary
Zelda was born May 8, 1943, in Lafayette to the late Elmer and Leatha (Lintner) Gipson. A life long resident of Lafayette, her marriage was to Gordon DeYoung. He preceded her in death after 50 years of marriage in 2017. She retired after 25 years of service in housekeeping at West Lafayette School Corporation.
Zelda was an active member of Community Reformed Church and loved to collect Boyd's Bears. She enjoyed spending time with all of her grand, great-grand, and great-great grandchildren. She loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Pauletta Payne of Lafayette, Teresa Hendren of Delphi, and Rebecca Laythrop of Lafayette; siblings: Judy Gipson, Stanley Gipson, and Larry (Belinda) Gipson; six grandchildren: Barbara Payne, Amanda Payne (Dioncio Leon), and Chelsea Payne; Nate Brooks (Mimi Craig), Brittany DeYoung, and Taylor Richardson; 18 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Along with her husband, Gordon, she is preceded in death by a great grandchild, Alberto Leon.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Hippensteel Funeral Home: 822 N. 9th Street, Lafayette. The funeral service will follow on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Hippensteel. Interment will take place at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. I remember Zelda fondly. I was friends with her girls. Was in the Elevenetts Drill team with them. I spent plenty of nights spending the nights at their house. Sorry to hear about her passing.
