Send FlowersWEST LIBERTY – Zelda "Zettie" Zoe Keeran, 90, passed away peacefully on Nov. 5, 2025 at the Otterbein Green Hills Senior Life Community. She was born on July 10, 1935 in Allensville, Pennsylvania, to the late David M. and Mabel R. (Phillips) Zook.
On July 1, 1956, she married Roy Lee Keeran. After 68 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 2024.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Timothy Keeran; daughter-in-law, Patty Keeran; son-in-law, Gary Harman; and siblings John Zook, Sara Zook, Ruth Zook, Robert Zook, and Gerald Zook.
Zettie dedicated many years of her life to caring for others as a registered nurse. She graduated from The Community Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield, Ohio. Over the course of her career, she worked at Memorial Hospital in Urbana; the office of Dr. Towle; Latham's Nursing Home in Bellefontaine; and later joined the staff at Green Hills upon its opening, where she remained until her retirement. Throughout her years of service, her compassionate nature and kind spirit left a lasting impression on both patients and co-workers.
Known for her good sense of humor, Zettie had an infectious laugh and a remarkable gift for lifting the spirits of those around her. Always a lively conversationalist, she loved sharing stories and embraced life fully. She was an avid reader and loved history – particularly early Ohio history. She cherished music, learning to play multiple instruments. In retirement, she volunteered in local schools reading to children and traveled with her dulcimer group, entertaining residents in area care communities.
Zettie took great joy in the home she and her husband built. She loved tending her flower gardens, watching the abundance of birds on the property, and delighting in the arrival of nesting bluebirds each spring. She also loved traveling. Her journeys included trips to Germany, Austria, and Mexico; visits to mountain cabins; annual family vacations to the Carolina beaches; and long scenic drives with her husband through the local countryside.
Zettie is survived by her children, Roy Lee Keeran Jr., Jennie Harman, Peter (Deborah) Keeran, Stephen (Jane) Keeran, and Vincent Keeran; her grandchildren, Joshua (Lauren), Jamie (Jeff), Lindsay, Amanda (Hal), Bradley (Ruth), and Lindsay (Markus); her great-grandchildren, Hudson, Patrick, Thackery, Aria, and Harper; her sister, Donna (Joel) Lehman; her brother, Thomas (Jean) Zook; her brother-in-law, Richard (Sara) Keeran; and numerous nieces and nephews.
