Zella Maxine Thompson

   Zella Maxine Thompson, 96, of Girard, IL passed away on January 24, 2026 at Hallmark Healthcare of Carlinville. She was born on November 4, 1929 in Carmi, IL the daughter of Raymond and Sabina “Bina” (Desper) Moore. Maxine married Benny Bryant Thompson on March 8, 1952 and they shared over 67 years until his passing on August 24, 2019. She retired after working 40 years for the Illinois Department of Transportation.

   Maxine is survived by her daughter, Lisa Britz of Girard, IL; grandchildren, Tammy Bryant of Webb, AL, Tom Connolly of Nilwood, IL, Bobbie Gail Britz (Nick O'Dea) of Savoy, IL; great grandchildren, Elysia York (Robert) of Headland AL, C.C. Eddy (Trent) of Newton AL, Rachel Stephens (Josh) of Dothan AL, Bubba Wiseman (Cheyenne) of Columbia, AL, Thomas Connolly of Webb, AL, Hunter Bryant of Troy, AL, Zella Connolly of Girard, IL; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Wilma Moore. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Doug Moore, Robert Moore, and Jim Moore.

   Graveside funeral services for Zella Maxine Thompson, 96, of Girard, IL will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi, IL. She will be laid to rest between her mother and brother. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Maxine’s memory to your local food bank and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi at 609 W. Main St. Carmi, IL 62821, who is assisting the family with arrangements.
