Zelpha G. Frushour, 103 of Warren, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Heritage Pointe in Warren, Indiana.
Zelpha was born on January 10, 1922, in Chalmers, Indiana to Joseph M. and Eva Anne (McCormick) Martin. She married George V. Frushour on October 23, 1942 in Lucerne, Indiana. She graduated from Indiana University with a BSN and became a registered nurse with a very unique life. She held almost every job that is available to a nurse. During World War II she was a burn nurse, treating the soldiers and sailors who came back injured from the war. She held the position of floor nurse, operating room nurse and private duty nurse. In nursing education, she held all positions, including director of nursing. On the retirement of her husband, they both entered the Peace Corps and served a three-year tour in Sierra Leone, West Africa. She lived in a primitive mud hut and served as the village doctor. She delivered a healthy son to the Chief of the village. This was a very important event and the village awarded Zelpha the village name "SUN-DU-KOE" (One who delivers.) She was a lifelong member of PEO, Philanthropic Educational Organization. Zelpha enjoyed working as a librarian and in the gift shop at her home in Heritage Pointe. She enjoyed living at Heritage Pointe and loved her Heritage Pointe family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her siblings: Shirley Combs, Kay Leonard, John Martin, and Jim Martin.
Loving survivors include her children George (Pat) V. Frushour, Jr. of Anchorage, Alaska and Steve (Mary) Frushour of Fredericksburg, Texas, 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and counting.
In honor of Zelpha's wishes, private services will be held, and she will be laid to rest beside her husband in Spring Hill Cemetery located in Warren, Indiana.
Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in her honor may make them to P.E.O. or Heritage Pointe of Warren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Glancy – H. Brown and Son Funeral Home in Warren, Indiana.
